FG To Employ More Medical Professionals At Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Others – Tunji Alausa

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has said that Federal Government is prioritising mental healthcare for Nigerians and working to increase the number of medical professionals in the country.

He made the statement at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Yaba during his tour of medical facilities in Lagos State last week.

During the minister’s visit, he assessed the state of the hospital, its operations, and explored avenues to optimise its functionality.

Dr. O. A. Owoeye, the Medical Director of the neuropsychiatric hospital, who expressed deep gratitude for Dr Alausa’s visit, outlined the centre’s achievements, emphasizing its resourcefulness in establishing vital structures to ensure that Lagosians with mental health challenges receive quality care.

However, he did not shy away from highlighting the hospital’s challenges, including the pressing need for additional equipment, space, and other critical resources.

 

Dr. Owoeye expressed hope that the minister would provide earnest assistance to overcome these challenges.

In response, Dr. Alausa emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to improving the healthcare system.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to enhance our healthcare system, which is why he appointed myself and honorable Ali Pate to supervise the health ministry. I can assure you that the ministry is in safe hands,” he said.

The minister went on to discuss potential solutions to the hospital’s challenges, promising support in resolving them.

He acknowledged the dramatic changes in the health ministry and assured that though the transformation might not happen overnight, quick and effective responses to healthcare challenges would be a top priority.

Dr. Alausa underlined the importance of increasing the production of medical professionals and the country’s commitment to educating its youth.

“To solve some of our challenges, we need to increase our production of medical professionals. Our youth aspire to receive quality education, and I have liaised with other institutions to ensure that your institution is not left behind in this vital endeavor,” the minister said.

Reviving the spirit and hopes of the dedicated healthcare workers, Dr. Alausa shared plans to provide robust support, earning enthusiastic applause from the healthcare professionals present.
