EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Nigerian Federal Government has taken steps to reposition the civil service by organizing a two-day Senior Leaders’ Programme for all Federal Permanent Secretaries and Permanent Secretaries-Designate.
The training program, which is being facilitated by Resource Persons from the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, London, UK, aims to provide the impetus needed to reposition the Federal Civil Service as a major driver of policies, projects and programmes of the Federal Government.
In a statement issued by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), it was disclosed that the training program would equip the Chief Administrative and Accounting Heads of the various MDAs with transformative coaching that combines deep expertise with analytical thinking and practical skills. This is expected to help them address real-life policy challenges towards ensuring service delivery and good governance for the teeming Nigerian population.
The Senior Leaders’ Programme is divided into four Plenary Sessions, namely Civil Service Reforms and Democracy, Civil Service Effectiveness, Integrity in Recruitment and Playbook for the Year Ahead.
The facilitators from the Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford University, led by Professor Christopher Stone, also grouped the Participants into smaller Syndicate Sessions that focused on Relations between the Public Service at the Federal and State Levels, Nigeria and its International Partnerships, and Building Culture of Integrity.
The partnership between the Federal Government and the AIG-Imoukhuede Foundation underscores the commitment of the government to equip its civil servants with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to drive sustainable development across the country.
The OHCSF has called on all participants to take the training seriously, noting that the future of the country rests on their ability to deliver results that will impact positively on the lives of Nigerians.
The Senior Leaders’ Programme is one of several initiatives being undertaken by the Federal Government to transform the Nigerian Civil Service. It is expected that the training will go a long way in building capacity, improving service delivery, and promoting good governance across the country.
