FG To Roll Out National Electronic Medical Record – Tunji Alausa

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Federal Government is set to roll out a national electronic medical record to ensure primary health care centres and hospitals have access to vital patient data on the same platform.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Tunji Alausa, made the disclosure at the weekend during a press briefing in Abuja.

He noted that the health ministry will digitise the troubled health sector to achieve a quality and functioning healthcare system for Nigerians.

The board-certified Nephrologist, who was based in the United States (US) before his appointment in August, also stated that the government will create a research fund, which will be dedicated to research in the medical and health field.

“As part of our digitization of the healthcare system, we’re going to roll out a national electronic medical record where our primary care centres and hospitals will come on the same platform. Then, as we move into the future, we will encourage each state government to come in and use the same platform,” Alausa said.

“The health system requires accurate and valid data that can be trusted locally and internationally.

“We need to begin to make sure that the data we collect are accurate and can be used to deliver care to our people.”

On his part, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, said that in agreement with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration agenda of renewed hope, his ministry, in collaboration with other Ministries, Departments and Agencies, sub-national governments, development partners, and private sector, is working to improve the condition of work and welfare of health workers, so that it can retain those on ground, and possibly attract those that have left.

According to him, the healthcare sector is in need of more workers.

“We are blessed to have over 400,000 health workers of different categories in this country,” the minister said.

“Each of them is a selfless person who is working under difficult circumstances, trying to improve the health of the population.
