FG Vows To Prevent Nigerians From Sliding Into Poverty

Published

Eko Hot Blog reports that Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, has said that the Federal Government is committed to preventing Nigerians from sliding into poverty.

Edu made this known in Maiduguri, Borno State, during a two-day working visit to the state.

She said that the government would be working with the state government to establish humanitarian hubs in all Local Government Areas. These hubs would provide services such as micro-credits, vocational training, and job opportunities to help people escape poverty.

Edu also said that the government would be working to repatriate and reintegrate internally displaced persons (IDPs) into their communities. She noted that the government would be providing support to help IDPs rebuild their lives.

The minister’s visit comes as Nigeria faces a number of challenges, including poverty, insecurity, and climate change. The government’s commitment to preventing Nigerians from sliding into poverty is a positive step, but it will need to be accompanied by other measures to address these challenges.
