EKO HOT BLOG reports that the alert was contained in NiMet’s weather outlook released on Friday and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) by Gayus Musa, the meteorological manager for Gombe State.
According to NiMet, temperatures are projected to rise sharply to about 40°C starting Saturday, with clear skies intensifying the thermal discomfort in these areas.
“After three days of rainfall, discomfort levels will significantly increase from April 12 due to the combination of high temperatures and clear skies. Maximum temperatures in the north will soar up to 40°C. With moisture in the air, the heat and discomfort will be more pronounced,” the statement warned.
Musa urged residents of Gombe and other affected areas to take proactive measures to minimize heat-related risks, highlighting the serious health implications of the impending conditions.
He advised people to avoid direct sun exposure, remain in well-ventilated environments, and wear light, breathable clothing. “Drink plenty of water, avoid peak sun hours between 12pm to 3pm, and use sun protection,” he recommended.
Musa also emphasized the need for communities to pay special attention to vulnerable groups, particularly children and the elderly, and to promote awareness about heat stress and preventive actions.
