‘We Are Committed To Fighting Hunger, Poverty’ – Tinubu At G20 Summit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to combating hunger and poverty while advocating for Nigeria’s inclusion in the G20 as a step toward addressing global challenges.

Speaking at the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Tinubu expressed his administration’s determination to lead discussions on sustainable development, energy transition, and economic equity.

On his official X handle, Tinubu wrote, “Thank you, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, for the warm welcome to the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio. Nigeria is prepared to engage extensively with world leaders here in Brazil to tackle critical global challenges head-on. We are committed to driving discussions and taking decisive action on sustainable development, energy transition, and the relentless fight against poverty and hunger.”

A statement from the Presidency outlined the strategic advantages of Nigeria’s potential inclusion in the G20, emphasizing its role as a vital player in Africa’s economy and global representation.

“Nigeria is one of the largest economies in Africa, making it a crucial player in the continent’s economic landscape. Its inclusion would ensure representation on global economic issues,” the statement noted.

Fighting Hunger Tinubu G20 Summit

The Presidency further highlighted Nigeria’s demographic strength as the most populous African nation, offering a consumer market of over 200 million people that is essential for global trade and investment.

The statement added, “As an influential voice for Africa, Nigeria’s inclusion in the G20 would enhance the representation of developing countries and address global power imbalances.”

Tinubu’s participation at the summit underscores Nigeria’s aspirations to amplify its role on the global stage, leveraging its economic and demographic assets to champion the interests of developing nations.
