Final year undergraduate drowns in Ebonyi hotel

There was panic in the Abakaliki student of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State, drowned in the swimming pool of a popular hotel in the city.

The victim, who was identified simply as Christian, reportedly drowned at the Sandiego Hotel, located on old Enugu Road, Abakaliki.

The deceased was said to be swimming with his friends inside the pool when he drowned

It was gathered that he was rushed to the Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where he was confirmed dead by doctors.

Following the incident, it was gathered that the hotel manager, Mr Austin Egbude, and the deceased’s friends were taken into custody by the security agents from the Kpirikpiri Police Division, Abakaliki, for questioning and were later released.

The hotel manager, Egbude, confirmed the incident to journalists, but noted that Sandiego was not the first hotel that had recorded such an incident.

The Ebonyi State Police Command’s spokesperson, Loveth Odah, said the management of the hotel reported the incident to the police.

“We are aware of it. It is a tragedy. The hotel management reported the matter to us,” Odah stated.
