On April 29, Finidi George was appointed as the official coach of the Super Eagles.
Surpassing other contenders such as fellow 1994 Africa Cup of Nations winner Emmanuel Amuneke, US men’s U-19 coach Michael Nsien, Sylvanus Okpala, and several other candidates for the position.
With just a month remaining until his first challenge of guiding the team against South Africa and Benin Republic in two pivotal 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Finidi has not yet announced his assistants.

When questioned by Punch correspondent about the timing of his assistant appointments, Finidi responded, “Very soon.”
Also, Ademola Olajire, spokesperson for the NFF, emphasized that the nation’s football governing body would not yield to rumors.
He affirmed that they would announce the appointments at the appropriate juncture.
“When everything is sorted, the NFF will announce. We don’t react to rumours,” Olajire told The PUNCH.
