EKO HOT BLOG reports that eyewitnesses disclosed that the fire broke out while the church was hosting a Friday vigil. Some worshippers, who had dozed off while resting ahead of the service, were caught unawares by the blaze.
Recounting the harrowing event, a source said, “The fire started late at night, around 9:30 pm. Many worshippers had already fallen asleep when it began. It was chaotic and terrifying.”
Another eyewitness described the precarious situation of an elderly woman who was trapped inside. “She was very old and struggled to move. She was still inside the church when the fire raged violently,” the source recounted.
A church member, who preferred anonymity, confirmed that worshippers were still inside the building during the fire but declined further comments, saying, “I will provide more information later.”
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services, Akinyemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident, stating that their team responded promptly after being alerted by a resident, Kunle Junaid. He assured the public that further details would be shared as investigations continue.
