Fire Destroys Emir Of Kano’s Palace In Suspected Arson Attack

Fire, allegedly set by unknown individuals, destroys part of the Emir of Kano’s palace, damaging the throne and valuables.

Eko Hot Blog reports that a fire has reportedly razed part of the palace at Gidan Rumfa, currently occupied by the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Lamido Sanusi. The incident occurred on Friday night around 11 pm and was allegedly set by unidentified individuals.

According to a source who spoke with Daily Trust, the palace located at Kofar Kudu, where the Emir holds court every Monday, suffered significant damage. The throne, air conditioners, and other valuable items were destroyed in the fire.

The source stated, “It was the palace at Kofar Kudu. The palace has an entrance from inside and a main entrance from the front (outside). The key was forced open, and it is suspected that they broke in, set the fire, and locked the door.”

Confirming the incident, the Chief of Staff to the Emir, Dan Buram Kano, said the palace is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the palace and its occupants.

He said, “On Saturday, 13th July, 2024 morning, a fire incident occurred at the outer court of His Highness’s Palace, Kofar Kudu. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and the damage was minimal.

“The palace is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the palace and its occupants. We are also investigating the cause of the fire and taking steps to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.”

However, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abudullahi, said the command was not aware of the incident as there was no call regarding the incident at any of the agency’s centres.
