Owners of shops on Bishop Okoye street close to the popular Mile 3 market in Port Harcourt, Rivers have been left to rue their loss after their businesses were razed by fire on Friday night.
Goods and properties worth millions of Naira were destroyed in the incident.
Shop owners in that vicinity mostly deal in kitchen utensils, beverages as well as perishable goods, Ekohotblog learnt.
Several videos posted on social media showed a devastating raging inferno puffing out as the shops are razed.
Residents were also seen calling for help as the situation got out of control.
Ekohotblog could not independently ascertain the cause of the conflagration, but witnesses say the inferno was caused by an electrical fault in one of the shops.
Several posts on social media claim that fire service officers were on ground to put out the inferno but later ran out of water.
State police spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, said the police are still investigating the cause of the fire.
No death was recorded at the time of filing this report.
