Fire Guts Seven-Storey Building in Lagos Island
A fire broke out in the early hours of Friday at a seven-storey building on Sanni Adewale Street in the Lagos Island Local Government Area.
The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, announced the incident via a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
Adeseye reported that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call at 5:17 a.m. and quickly dispatched firefighters from the Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations, who arrived at the scene by 5:33 a.m.
She confirmed that the situation is now under control, with no casualties reported.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was likely caused by an electrical surge.

The statement read: “On August 16, 2024, at 5:17 a.m., the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call regarding a fire outbreak on Sanni Adewale Street, located in the Lagos Island Local Government Area. The fire affected several shops within a seven-storey building.
“Firefighters from the Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations promptly responded, arriving at the scene by 5:33 a.m.
