Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed by fire at the popular Alaba Rago market in the Ojo area of Lagos state on Wednesday.
In a statement, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority’s (LASEMA) Permanent Secretary, Femi Oke-Osayintolu, said the fire started at midnight.
He added that the LASEMA team responded to distress calls, activated the State’s emergency response plans, and deployed its Emergency Response Team from Igando. The cause of the fire could not be determined at the time of filing this report.
Upon the arrival of the agency’s Dolphin Response Team at the scene, it was discovered that several shanty shops were engulfed in flames.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA, and other responders were on the ground, working to contain the fire.
Speaking on the incident, Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, stated that the fire was ultimately prevented from spreading to other properties.
