EKO HOT BLOG reports that hoodlums attempted to set ablaze the local government office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Takai local government area of Kano state during a clash between political supporters on Sunday morning, February 26.

According to an eyewitness, the fire was set up from behind the building but was quickly quenched before it could cause significant damage. Security operatives were able to disperse the crowd, but some people sustained injuries during the fracas, and four persons were reportedly killed.

The incident occurred as a result of issues during the collation of results at the LGA. The clash between political supporters led to the attempted arson of the INEC office.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident and stated that the fire was set up at the generator house behind the office building. However, security operatives were able to bring the fire under control immediately.

Kiyawa also mentioned that he was not aware of any loss of life resulting from the incident. The security operatives have intensified their presence in the area to prevent further violence and to maintain peace and order.
