A fire outbreak occurred at the Oko Baba plank market in Ebute Metta, Lagos, causing significant damage as it spread to nearby shanties.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded swiftly to contain the blaze.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that an eyewitness, Adedeji Olalekan, shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that the fire was rapidly engulfing the area. “Okobaba Street is on fire now, all the shanties are burning,” he tweeted.
LASEMA spokesperson Nosa Okunbor confirmed the incident to The Punch, stating that emergency teams, including the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) Fire Unit and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, were actively involved in search and rescue operations.
Efforts to bring the fire under control were ongoing at the time of the report, with no official word on casualties or the extent of the damage.
