According to reports, the Oyo State Fire Services received a distress call alerting them to the incident. Yemi Akinyemi, the General Manager of Fire Services in Oyo State, confirmed that the agency swiftly responded to the emergency situation.
“We received a distress call at exactly 04:37 am from Sunday Ogundele, Access Bank security, reporting that Agbeni market was engulfed in flames,” Akinyemi stated.
Firefighters and officials from the fire service department immediately mobilized to the scene, where they are currently engaged in efforts to extinguish the fire and control the situation. The task at hand is arduous, given the magnitude of the blaze and the need to protect surrounding structures.
In their tireless efforts to combat the fire, the fire service personnel have been assisted by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), which generously allowed the use of their water supply. This support has been crucial in addressing the emergency.
Akinyemi expressed gratitude to the CBN for their cooperation and mentioned that the fire service would be visiting the CBN to replenish their water reserves.
As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown and investigations are underway to determine its origin. The authorities are committed to establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
