First S’African Nurse To Get Vaccine At Karl Bremer Hospital Dies Of Covid-19

The first nurse to be vaccinated at Karl Bremer Hospital, Western Cape, in South Africa has died of complications resulting from Covid-19.

 

Iris Adams, 64, who received the vaccine at the hospital, died on Saturday, September 18, 2021.

 

She had been an Assistant Nursing Manager since 1997 and was the first person to receive a vaccine in February this year.

 

Adams, whose obituary was announced on social media by family and friends was due to retire this month after serving the public for over 43 years.

 

A tribute released by the management of the hospital, and as sighted by Ekohotblog on Facebook reads: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mrs. Iris Adams.

 

“She has been a loyal public servant for over 43 years. She was born on 28 September 1956 and started her nursing career on 1 January 1978. She worked at Karl Bremer Hospital since 01 May 1997.

 

“At the time of her passing, she was the Assistant Manager: Nursing (Specialty). This month she would’ve turned 65 and would’ve retired.

 

“Mrs. Adams has sadly lost her fight against COVID-19 and will be sorely missed by all colleagues here at Karl Bremer Hospital.

 

“To her family and especially her nursing colleagues, we pray that God gives you the strength of mind to go through this difficult period.

 

“May her soul rest in peace.”
