A tragic accident occurred around midnight on Thursday along the Iwo Road-Ojoo expressway, involving a commercial Micra vehicle and a truck.
The crash resulted in Five dead, one person sustaining injuries, while six others escaped unscathed.
According to a statement issued by the Oyo State Road Safety Command, the collision was caused by a route violation, which led to severe consequences for the 12 passengers onboard.
The statement further revealed that the injured individual was rushed to a nearby hospital by the Police before the road safety team arrived at the scene.
Although the identities of the deceased have not been confirmed at the time of this report, the bodies of the five fatalities have been deposited at the morgue.
The Oyo State Road Safety Command has once again cautioned drivers against road violations and overspeeding.
Sector Commander Rosemary Alo emphasized, “Drivers are always in too much haste, which leads to preventable loss of lives.”
She also stressed the importance of caution in areas where construction work is ongoing.
“Commercial drivers and other road users must strictly adhere to the rules in place and navigate the roads with patience, regardless of the time of day,” she stated.
The statement concluded by confirming that the vehicles involved in the accident have been towed to the Akobo Police Station to ease traffic congestion at the general gas axis, where the incident took place.
