They achieved this milestone by defeating Liberia 2-0 in Abuja on Friday, culminating in a 6-1 aggregate victory in their final qualifier.
Striker Harmony Chidi led the Flamingos to victory over Liberia with a brace, securing their place in the tournament taking place from October 16 to November 3 in the Dominican Republic.
Chidi opened the scoring for Bankole Olowookere’s team just four minutes into the game and added a second goal in the 63rd minute, bringing her total to 13 goals in six matches during the qualifying series.
Nigeria triumphed 4-1 in the first leg in Monrovia on Sunday. Chidi, Shakirat Moshood, Peace Effiong, and substitute Blessing Ifitezue scored for the Flamingos.
The hosts managed a consolation goal from a penalty awarded five minutes before the end of the match at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.
The Flamingos’ journey to the Dominican Republic highlighted their offensive prowess, starting with a 12-0 aggregate victory (6-0 in each leg) against the Central African Republic in the second round.
They then secured a 7-1 aggregate win over Burkina Faso (1-1 and 6-0) in the third round, before concluding with their triumph over Liberia.
Nigeria has only missed one edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals—the 2018 tournament in Uruguay—where Cameroon’s Baby Lionesses edged them out on the away-goal rule in the final round.
