Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has called on Nigerian churches to refocus their teachings on the values of hard work and service to the community, rather than on prosperity and material wealth.
Osinbajo gave this charge while Speaking at the 68th Anniversary and 58th Annual Convention of The Gospel Faith Mission International (GOFAMINT) over the weekend.
The former former vice president expressed concern over the shift in the church’s message.
“For too long, our churches have been caught up in the pursuit of personal prosperity and material wealth, neglecting the true calling of the gospel to promote peace, unity, and the holistic development of our society,” Osinbajo stated.
He emphasized that this preoccupation with prosperity has distracted the nation from the values that could lead to real, sustainable progress.
“If we truly want to see Nigeria rise again and fulfill its immense potential, the church must return to its roots,” he urged.
He argued that such a shift could transform Nigerians into agents of positive change, fostering a culture of productivity and civic responsibility rather than one focused solely on personal gain.
