Foluke Daramola On Surviving Her Abusive Marriage

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Foluke Daramola-Salako, a popular Nollywood actress, has disclosed the reasons behind her decision to remain in an abusive marriage. The actress, who spoke during a recent interview on TVC, revealed that she stayed in the abusive marriage for four years because she was scared of being criticised by outsiders.

Daramola-Salako, who is a mother of two, narrated that she was first abused on her wedding night, but decided to remain in the marriage because of societal pressures. She added that the marriage produced her two wonderful kids, and she believes that God had a plan for her life.

The actress further explained that when she finally made the decision to leave the marriage, many people did not understand her decision. However, she acknowledged that it was the right thing to do, as she would have been a forgotten case if she had lost her life in the process of trying to prove to the world what she was going through.

Daramola-Salako added that she accepted her truth, even though some people did not receive it well, and encouraged other women who are facing similar challenges to speak out and seek help.

She was quoted as saying:

“My first marriage, on the night of my wedding was when I noticed abuse. But because of what people will say… And God has already orchestrated it because my wonderful kids are from the marriage.

“When I finally decided to step out [of the marriage], people did not understand why I stepped out. But I understood that I needed to go. A lot of people did not receive it well, but if I hadn’t stepped out, if I had died there, by now I would have been a forgotten case.

“So, it is better for people not to accept my reality or my truth but I accept my own truth than for me to lose my life in the process of trying to prove to the world what I’m going through.”

The actress has been a vocal advocate for women’s rights and has been involved in several campaigns against domestic violence. She has also established a foundation, the Passion Against Rape and Abuse Africa Foundation, which is focused on creating awareness about sexual assault and abuse, as well as providing support for survivors.

Daramola-Salako’s story highlights the need for society to be more understanding and supportive of victims of domestic violence. It is important for victims to be able to speak out and seek help without fear of being judged or criticised.
