Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Technical and Vocational Education, Comrade Giwa Moore, emphasized the importance of technical education and skills development for Lagos youth to thrive in the 21st century as employers of labour.
Speaking at the Mentors Platform program hosted by Executive Chairman of Ibeju Lekki LGA, Hon Sesan Olowa in Lagos on Wednesday, May 9, 2024, Moore praised Governor Sanwoolu for his focus on youth inclusion, capacity building, and commitment to technical and vocational education.
He specifically applauded the efforts of Ms. Moronke Azeez, the Executive Secretary of Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board, for her contributions to the sector’s development and her ongoing efforts to meet global standards.
He said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is committed to giving the important sector the attention it really deserves one of which is his appointment as the SSA on Technical and Vocational Education Board.
Giwa made it known that LASTVEB is creating an ecosystem that would foster innovation, create jobs for the youth, and ensure the future competitiveness of the state economy.
He highlighted the essential role of education and skill acquisition, urging Lagos youth to commit to hard work for a prosperous future. Giwa emphasized that the ongoing digital revolution is reshaping industries, leading to the emergence of new job opportunities that require a fresh set of skills.
Furthermore, he observed that the future of work in Lagos is evolving rapidly, stressing the importance of embracing technical and vocational education to mitigate youth unemployment in the state.
“Lagos, with its youthful population and dynamic energy, stands at the forefront of shaping the future of work not only in Nigeria but on a global scale. As we navigate this transformation, our focus must be on technical education and skill development, ensuring that our workforce is equipped to thrive in the 21st century,” he said.
At the event, he commends Hon Sesan Olowa the Executive Chairman of Ibeju Lekki LGA for coming up with the noble idea which is targeted at mentoring the youth, he also appreciate the entire team that put the event together for extending the invitation to him.
