EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Former U.S. President Donald Trump was announced as the victor, marking a remarkable return to office as the oldest president to secure the White House, sparking global reactions.
Following the U.S. election, Labour Party National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifo highlighted it as a democratic model, suggesting Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission could learn from the transparency of the process.
Ifo noted the American public’s disregard for the incumbency factor, a persistent influence in African and Nigerian elections.
Similarly, New Nigeria Peoples Party spokesperson Ladipo Johnson emphasized that Nigeria’s electoral system must evolve beyond incumbency and the misuse of security apparatus to intimidate opposition, lamenting the continued dominance of power by entrenched leaders.
However, APC National Publicity Director Bala Ibrahim advised opposition parties to temper their enthusiasm, asserting that the electoral contexts in Nigeria and the U.S. differ significantly.
He referenced the 2015 Nigerian election where former President Muhammadu Buhari defeated incumbent Goodluck Jonathan, underscoring that the incumbency factor isn’t foolproof where public sentiment calls for change.
Ibrahim expressed confidence that Nigerians will soon appreciate the APC’s economic reforms, predicting widespread support by 2026 or 2027 as the benefits begin to materialize.
He remarked, “With the APC’s rigorous efforts in implementing new reforms, albeit initially challenging, we anticipate Nigerians will recognize their long-term value by the time of the next election.”
The APC spokesperson added that the party remains focused on future strategies and prepared for electoral competition, expressing certainty that Tinubu’s administration, bolstered by anticipated public approval of its policies, will present a formidable challenge to any opposition.
He concluded, “We’re not leaving the nation’s future to those struggling with internal crises.
As Nigerians witness the impact of these reforms, support for the president and the APC will only grow, making an outsider’s victory highly unlikely. The APC will be ready and won’t be caught unprepared.”
