Former Afghanistan President Says He Fled Country For Peace To Reign
  • Former Afghanistan leader Ashraf Ghani said he was advised to flee the country when Taliban forcefully took over from him.

Former Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani has stated that he fled when Taliban took over Kabul, the country’s capital, in order to allow peace to reign.

It would be recalled that some weeks ago, terrorist group Taliban swept into Afghanistan’s capital city after the government collapsed.

At the time, Ghani was nowhere to be found in the country as he reportedly took to his heels.

Locally and internationally, Ghani was heavily criticised, as many people accused him of allowing the free reign of the Taliban after he fled out of his cowardliness.

Some of the critics of the former Afghanistan president said he didn’t stay true to his oath of office, as he abandoned the people he was leading.

Addressing his critics, Ghani explained that it was never his intention to “abandon the people” as he apologised to Afghanistans for the way his rule came to an end.

According to the former Afghanistan president, he had to leave the country on Sunday, August 15, 2021, as his security details advised him to do so.

Ghani said he was told that his absence from the country would avoid the risk of bloody street fighting.

His words: “Leaving Kabul was the most difficult decision of my life, but I believed it was the only way to keep the guns silent and save Kabul and her 6 million citizens.

“It is with a deep and profound regret that my chapter ended in a similar tragedy to my predecessors.”
