Eko Hot Blog reports that a former Edo State governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Washington Osifo, has urged party members to work for the party and governorship candidate, Dennis Idahosa, in the interest of the APC and people of Edo.
Osifo stated this at a press briefing in Benin on Tuesday, saying the APC primary election conducted on Saturday “was not so flawed” and that no party can conduct primaries without leadership interference.
“The committee charged with organizing the election, led by Chairman Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State announced Idahosa as the winner and candidate of the party in the forthcoming election,” Osifo said.
He added that arguing over who should announce results is “myopic and casuistic”, noting Uzodimma played the same role in 2019 without question.
“As gentlemen, we must together again work for our party and the governorship candidate, Dennis Idahosa, in the interest of our great party and Edo people,” Osifo stated.
The former aspirant said the major parties are still “leadership-driven” and cannot conduct primaries without leadership influence.
“Let it be known that the parties are not yet substantially driven by ideology, ethos, and traditions, which ought to guide the direction of the party and their candidates,” he added.
