Former Edo Speaker, Zakawanu Garuba, Is Dead
A former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Zakawanu Garuba, 54, has died on Saturday 18, July 2020.
The news of his death was confirmed by an unidentified family member, who disclosed that Garuba died of a brief illness at an Abuja hospital on Saturday morning.
Garuba was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was elected into the Edo State House of Assembly in 2003.
During his days as a member of the House, he served as chairman of the House committee on judiciary, human rights, and legal matters.
And later became the speaker of the House between 2007 and 2009 in the Edo.
He was removed as speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly by members of the then Action Congress to pave way for Mr. Bright Omokhodion who defected to the AC from the PDP.

After his exit from legislative duty, Zakawanu Garuba was appointed into the Board of the Securities and Exchange Commission to serve as the Executive Commissioner, Finance and Administration (now known as the corporate services directorate of the commission).
Until his death, Garuba was the Oshioze of Auchi Kingdom.
The Ex-lawmaker is survived by a wife and three children.
Garuba was born on 23 August 1965, in Akpekpe community, Auchi, in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.
He has is educational background in Law at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State and was called to Bar in 1990.
