Former Enugu governor, wife fight over custody of 10-year-old son

A few years after leaving office, former Enugu State governor, Sullivan Chime is locked in a divorce saga with his wife, Clara Chime

So bad is the situation that estranged Chime, who is asking an FCT High Court, Apo to annul his marriage to his wife, is also battling for the custody of her 10-year-old son.

Following Chime’s petition seeking the dissolution of their marriage of 11 years, Clara told the court of her readiness to divorce her husband.

However, she prayed the court to grant her custody of their son and for Chime to pay child maintenance fee of N500,000 every month.

According to her, the demand for the custody of her son, who was not named in the legal wrangling due to his status as a minor, was not properly cared for even though she was only allowed access to him five hours a month under heavy security.

Clara, who also informed the court that she fell into depression during her marriage because her husband only had sexual relations with her on their wedding night and never afterwards, denied allegations she had schizophrenia.

With the counsel to Chime, Paul Onya, and that of Clara, Achibongu Iyeme, unable to agree tendering petitions she filed previously demanding custody as exhibits, Justice Angela Otaluka ruled that the documents were not admissible and adjourned until June 10 for continuation of hearing.
