Fortification Goes Wrong as Young Man Dies After Being Buried for One Hour in Enugu
A businessman from Onitsha, identified as Chikwado Eze, has died after undergoing a ritual burial in Inyi, a community in the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Reports indicate that Eze, originally from the Ugbaike community within the same council area, had recently obtained a visa to travel abroad for business but sought additional fortification for success. He approached a native doctor in Inyi, who demanded that Eze be buried for one and a half hours as part of the ritual.

On the day of the incident, Eze was accompanied by his biological father, Uwakwe, to the native doctor’s location. After some initial festivities, the native doctor requested that the father and other guests leave to allow him to perform the rituals privately.
Eze was then lowered into the grave and covered for the specified duration. However, trouble ensued when he was exhumed; instead of emerging fortified, he was found weak and drenched in sweat. As the situation escalated, the native doctor attempted to revive him with incantations, but their efforts proved futile.

Eyewitnesses reported that Eze was quickly taken to a hospital in the local government headquarters at Ogrute, where he was pronounced dead by the attending physicians. In the aftermath, both his father and the native doctor were arrested by the police for questioning.
The father, previously ostracized by the Ugbaike community due to alleged involvement in dangerous charms, denied coercing his son into the ritual, claiming that Eze had already procured all the necessary items before inviting him to participate.
