A devastating accident recently occurred in the Ikwette community near the Obudu cattle ranch in Cross River State, resulting in the loss of four Catholic seminarians’ lives and injuries to nine others.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the victims, associated with the Enugu Catholic Diocese, were on a trip to the ranch when their vehicle reportedly experienced brake failure.

Eyewitnesses reported that the group had just completed a guided tour of the Obudu Mountain Resort and were descending the hill when the tragedy struck. The bus, owned by the Enugu Catholic Diocese, was carrying 13 people at the time of the incident.

Emergency responders from the Ranch Resort and the Nigerian Army swiftly arrived at the scene, administered immediate medical care, and transported the injured to the nearest hospital.

The Enugu Catholic Diocese confirmed that the group, led by a Reverend Father, consisted primarily of seminarians in training. The identities of the deceased were not disclosed until their families were informed.

“This is an incredibly painful time for the Church and the affected families,” stated a Diocese representative, adding “We request prayers and support as we face this challenging period,” he said.

The Cross River State Government has expressed condolences and offered support to the victims’ families.

A statement signed by Governor Bassey Otu’s Chief Press Secretary, Gill Nsa, conveyed the government’s sympathy and commitment to assisting those affected during this difficult time.

The state government is actively reaching out to the families of the deceased and injured, ensuring that they receive necessary assistance and resources.
