Eko Hot Blog reports that Four men identified as Sola Ogunleye, Ebenezer Adebayo, Lasisi Afeez, and Ojo Oba were sentenced to death by hanging on Thursday for charges of murder and armed robbery.
The suspects faced charges of murder, attempted murder, and armed robbery before Justice L.O. Ogundana at the Ekiti High Court in Ado-Ekiti.
The armed robbery charge contravenes Section 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap. R11, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2004, while the murder and attempted murder charges are contrary to Sections 319(1) and 320 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap.C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Ogundana declared that the prosecution had proven the charges against the defendants beyond a reasonable doubt. Consequently, he convicted the defendants and sentenced them to death by hanging for the offences of armed robbery and murder.

For the offences of attempted murder and conspiracy, Ogundana sentenced the four men to life imprisonment.
The prosecution detailed that the crimes occurred on May 29, 2017, at Oyan Orete Camp, Ijan-Ekiti, where the convicts robbed residents at gunpoint and murdered one Olasunkanmi Ramon. They also attacked Alhaji Usman Adeleye, inflicting machete wounds on his head.
The Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Julius Ajibare, represented the state in the case, presenting five witnesses and seven exhibits to support the prosecution’s case.
The convicts, who pleaded not guilty, were defended by Counsel Mr. Chris Omokhafe and Mr. Oluwaseun Oyebanji. During the trial, the defendants testified on their own behalf and called two witnesses.
