- Mourinho was fired by Spurs in April after 17 months in charge
France manager Didier Deschamps has responded to Jose Mourinho after the new Roma boss made a prediction about the nation’s Euro 2020 prospects, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.
Mourinho claimed last week that not winning the tournament would be considered an “unsuccessful Euros” for Deschamps and his side.
France won the World Cup back in 2018, and have since been regarded by many as the best international side in world football.
Their Euros group looks set to be one of the most competitive, containing themselves, Portugal, Germany and Hungary.
When asked about France’s prospects at the tournament, Mourinho had told The Sun: “Didier Deschamps knows what he wants. They are the world champions. They are the last runner-ups in the Euros.

“I think less than reaching the final, for them is nothing. I don’t believe Deschamps reads or listens to the outside…I think he just knows what we wants.
“I cannot see any weakness. If I had to say one team to win, I will say them, because the group of players is fantastic.
“They have to win it. If not, it is an unsuccessful Euros.”
In response, the France manager told Telefoot: “I thought the same about his Tottenham team, but it did not end up happening like that.
“Yes, we are favourites due to the status of world champions. It is not a pressure, it is the reality, we will not flee the debate on the presence of France among the favourites of this Euro.
“Obviously I have a very important attacking potential, but it’s not just that.
There is a balance to be found, through adjustments. I hope to have the ball as much as possible, but there are times when we won’t have it, and we will have to keep our strength.”
France kick off their Euro 2020 campaign against Germany in Munich on June 15.
They then travel to Budapest to take on Hungary four days later, before facing Portugal at the same venue on June 23.
