Frank Kokori’s townsmen block East-West Road over NSITF debacle
The people of Ovu community, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, home town of the former National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, Secretary-General, Chief Frank Kokori, yesterday, blocked the East-West Road, protesting the refusal of the Minister of Labour, Mr. Chris Ngige, to swear in Kokori as Chairman of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund(NSITF).
The community also gave 72 hours to Ngige to swear in Kokori or be ready to face the wrath of the community.
Speaking to newsmen, some of the Ovu community leaders, Chief Ese Okwa, Mr. Ogheneruemu Ovedje, Chief Godwin Demide and Mr. Joseph Ituge on behalf of the community commended the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress(NLC), NUPENG, Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Association of Nigeria(PENGASAN) and others for standing strongly behind their political leader and father, Kokori, over the chairmanship position.
Lamenting the consistent refusal of Ngige to inaugurate Kokori as the chairman, they said they had exhausted their patients, and that if on the expiration of the ultimatum, their request was not granted, they will mobilise to Abuja to stop Ngige’s access to his office, and “Ngige should be ready and prepared to kill or arrest us.
“How could a minister appointed by the President turn around to disobey the President’s directive to swear in Chief Kokori that has been appointed to head NSITF? We, the Ovu community see Ngige’s action as the height of disloyalty to the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) and such person need not to be associated with or be appointed into a progressive government like APC.”
Others who also spoke to newsmen were Mr. Victor Eferigho and Chief Paul Dedemise, who said: “Ngige knows Kokori’s pedigree that he is not a man he can turn around for his selfish interest, hence he is fighting to see that the man does not come in because he (Kokori) will not agree to his backyard business, so for that reason Kokori is not fit.”
