However, Chelsea rallied and sealed the win with goals from Badiashile and Joao Felix, clinching their first three points under Lampard’s interim tenure.
In a post-match interview, Lampard was asked if he would consider granting more playing time to the young players aged 23 and under who performed well during the game. The former England midfielder responded affirmatively, expressing his desire to provide minutes to these players who have demonstrated their abilities on the training ground and during matches.
“To a degree, yes. My role now is to try and give those players minutes,” Lampard affirmed.
He further explained that if these young players continue to train well, there will be healthy competition from other squad members vying for opportunities. Lampard specifically highlighted the impressive performances of Noni Madueke and Benoit Badiashile, indicating that their talents have earned them a place in the team.
Lampard praised Madueke, emphasizing the impact of his performance in the recent match, which secured him a place in the starting lineup despite not being in top condition a few days earlier.
The 23-year-old winger showcased his potential and played a significant role in Chelsea’s victory. Badiashile, another young talent, also caught Lampard’s attention, with the manager acknowledging the French defender’s evident skill and potential.
The pledge to provide more playing time for young players aligns with Chelsea’s longstanding commitment to developing and nurturing talents from their academy. Over the years, the club has produced several notable players who have gone on to achieve success both domestically and internationally.
Lampard’s previous tenure as Chelsea manager, coupled with his own experience as a young player at the club, further underscores his dedication to fostering the growth of talented individuals within the squad.
As Lampard continues to guide Chelsea during his interim spell, the spotlight will be on the young players who have impressed and earned his trust.
