The former English international midfielder assumed the managerial role at Chelsea amidst a challenging period for the club. However, despite his best efforts, Lampard was unable to steer the team to success, resulting in a disappointing 12th-place finish in the league table. The club’s final position left them closer to the relegation zone than the highly coveted Champions League places.
Reflecting on his time as the interim boss, Lampard acknowledged the intensity of the role and emphasized the need for a period of rest.
“I’ll have a break, it has been quite intense. I wasn’t in that mode, I had to get in the mode,” Lampard revealed. Having given his utmost dedication and commitment to Chelsea, he now awaits the outcome of the club’s decision regarding his future.
Lampard’s managerial journey this season began earlier at Everton, where he was also relieved of his duties. Despite these setbacks, Lampard remains optimistic and maintains a desire to continue his career in football. The upcoming break will provide him with an opportunity to reflect on his experiences and recharge for future endeavors.
Chelsea’s underwhelming campaign concluded with a total of 44 points, marking their lowest points tally since the 1987-88 season, which ultimately led to their relegation. The club’s fans and stakeholders have expressed their disappointment with the team’s performance, and there will likely be calls for significant changes within the squad and coaching staff during the off-season.
