Frank Lampard was initially appointed as Chelsea’s manager back in 2019. During his first season in charge, he guided the team to a top-four finish in the Premier League and to the final of the FA Cup.
However, Lampard was dismissed from his role in January 2021, following a run of poor results that saw the team slip down the table. Since then, he has been out of work and is said to be keen to return to management.
If appointed, Lampard would be taking over from Potter, who left Chelsea to join fellow Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion. The caretaker role would provide Lampard with an opportunity to prove his worth as a manager once again, and potentially earn a longer-term contract at the club.
The 44-year-old has a strong connection to Chelsea, having spent 13 seasons at the club as a player. During his time at Stamford Bridge, Lampard won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and the Champions League.
