Eko Hot Blog reports that the 80th birthday celebration of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, will feature a week-long programme of activities, including free medical care for 3,000 people.
The chairman of the planning committee, Yinka Kufile, said the celebration will kick off on Friday, September 8, with the conferment of chieftaincy titles on distinguished sons and daughters of Egbaland. This will be followed by two days of free medical services, including eye surgeries.
On September 14, there will be an interdenominational service at the Cathedral Church of St Peters, Ake, Abeokuta. This will be followed by a grand reception and book launch in honour of the Alake.
The celebration will conclude with the Alake laying the foundation for the new Abeokuta City Hall, a project that is being done in preparation for the celebration of 200 years of Abeokuta’s existence in 2030.
The planning committee also includes Taiwo Adeoluwa, Remi Adetayo, Tokunbo Odebunmi, Tejumade Bakre, and Tunji Sunmonu.
