Fresh Crisis Brews In PDP As Governors Reject Damagum As Chairman, Delay NEC Meeting
Eko Hot Blog reports that fresh crisis seems to be brewing in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the party’s governors’ purported rejection of the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
This news medium gathered that governors want Damagum removed from his position and demand a total overhaul of the party’s national leadership from the top to the bottom.

It would be recalled that Damagum was the party’s National Deputy Chairman (North) before being appointed as the acting National Chairman in March after a High Court order suspended Senator Iyorchia Ayu from parading himself as the party’s national chairman.
However, according to the Punch, most of the PDP governors are not interested in confirming Damagum as the party’s substantive National Chairman.
A source, a party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) member, disclosed that the governors have their plan and confirmed Damagum is not part of it.
The source stated anonymously that governors want a new substantive national chairman and do not see Damagum as the right person for the role.
The source added that stakeholders will reposition the party following the dismissal of the appeal filed by its 2023 Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, by the Supreme Court.
He said, “We will review our performance and decide how to get the party’s new leadership. The governors are not interested in enabling stakeholders to confirm Damagum as PDP National Chairman; they have their plans and want him to reposition the party from top to bottom.
“But all these will be decided, and the implementation will start from the next NEC meeting.”
Speaking on the delay of the NEC meeting, the source said: “During the last PDP governors’ forum meeting, the governors unanimously agreed that this is not the best time to hold a NEC meeting.
They pointed out that holding the NEC meeting now will distract the party members from concentrating on the governorship elections in Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo. So they delayed it to enable party members to concentrate in these governorship elections.”
Another source, who is a high-ranking member of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), said, “You can’t hold NEC meeting now when we are supposed to focus on how to win the governorship elections in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa.”
