EKO HOT BLOG reports that that the attack plunged the community into mourning and devastation. Sources told Leadership that the armed men stormed the area, shooting sporadically and setting ablaze about 30 homes, causing widespread panic and destruction.

Confirming the incident, the Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Danjuma Dickson Auta, said more than 45 bodies had been recovered, with fears that the death toll could rise. He described the violence as a coordinated and deliberate attack, suggesting it was carefully planned.

In reaction, the Plateau State Government condemned the massacre, calling it “unprovoked and alarming.” The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Joyce Ramnap, lamented that the state was once again plunged into grief.

“This is one too many. In less than two weeks after our people were killed in Bokkos Local Government, we are witnessing another carnage in Bassa,” Ramnap said. She stressed that the attack was a clear attempt to disrupt the fragile peace the state had recently begun to enjoy.

Ramnap urged residents of Plateau, particularly those in affected communities, to remain calm and avoid reprisals. She assured that Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration is committed to ensuring that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.
