Fridge repairer stabs transport union leader to death in Ogun, blames devil
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Toheeb Akanji (aka T.Cash), a 32-year-old fridge and air conditioner mechanic, has accused the devil for stabbing Damilare Babatunde, 42, to death in Ogun State.
Police apprehended Akanji after receiving a distress call from one Oluomo at the Agbado police station around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The dead, a transport union head who was at Blue Roof Hotel in Adiyan Gasline to celebrate with the hotelier, was stabbed by an unknown individual, according to the caller.
CSP Kehinde Kuranga, the DPO of Agbado division, was alleged to have promptly rushed his men to the location after receiving the distress call.
On their arrival at the scene of the incident, the police team discovered that “the deceased was lured out of the hotel and stabbed severally on the chest, hand and face,” said the Ogun police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi.
According to Oyeyemi, it was also discovered that the victim struggled with his assailant, which he said made him to seize the cardigan he wore at the time of the incident as well as the knife with which he was stabbed.
While disclosing that the deceased was confirmed dead by a doctor at the hospital he was rushed to, Oyeyemi informed the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had directed that the suspect must be hunted for and apprehended within 24 hours.
Upon Bankole’s directive, the DPO and his men swung into action, and at about 5 pm of Saturday, the suspect was nabbed.
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed killing the deceased, but blamed it on devil handwork.
“He stated that he was at the hotel to find out who beat and injured one of his boys, but on getting there, the victim started fighting with him. It was then he brought out the knife he came with to stab him,” Oyeyemi quoted the suspect as saying.
Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the homicide section for further investigation diligent prosecution.
