The Federal Government is progressing with plans to equip the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) with helicopters to enhance the emergency evacuation of accident victims nationwide.

The acquisition of the helicopters, set to be procured under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, was revealed during the FRSC Management Retreat and a press conference held in Abuja on Tuesday.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Clement Oladele, the Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of the Corps Policy, Research, and Statistics Department, shared updates on the initiative, emphasizing the progress made in securing the air assets.

He also highlighted ongoing discussions with private sector partners to equip the FRSC with air ambulances.

These ambulances are intended to be stationed at key locations near trauma centers along accident-prone routes, facilitating rapid evacuation of victims.

Oladele expressed optimism about the timeline for acquiring the helicopters, stating, “We thought it might take longer to get our choppers, but from the current discussions, it could happen sooner than expected.”

He further explained that the initiative goes beyond just acquiring helicopters.

The plan also includes deploying air ambulances at strategic points along major roads, especially those with high accident rates, to ensure quicker response times.

Additionally, drones will be integrated into the strategy, leveraging advanced technology to support the FRSC’s operations.

“This effort is part of our larger goal to ensure timely and efficient evacuation of crash victims, using both air and technological resources,” Oladele added.
