FRSC Prosecute 1,091 Traffic Violators In Lagos

  • The Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), in Lagos has reportedly arrested 1,091 traffic offenders in the past seven days through its ‘Operation Show Your Driver’s License’.

Disclosing this to newsmen on Tuesday, the Lagos Sector Commander, Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide, said that the operation which saw the arrest of the offenders over expired tyres, vehicle documents, and speed limiting devices was carried out simultaneously in all the 12 commands and 5 outposts in the state.

Mr Ogungbemide, explained that the offenders were charged to mobile courts for various offences with driver’s license offenders fined N10, 000.

He continued by saying that some offenders who were fined N10, 000 for driving without drivers’ licenses were also charged with other offences.

In his words, “On the first week of the operation, from Sept. 14 to Sept. 20, the total booking recorded was 1,091, out of which we generated 1,377 offences.

“From the 1,091 bookings, we had 252 persons who were driving without a valid driver’s license, while some of them were driving with no driver’s license. Others had fake licenses.”

He noted that the government had made it easy for motorists to approach motor vehicle administration agencies in all the state’s local governments.

Mr Ogungbemide further urged motorists to process their licenses by visiting the FRSC Driver’s License Centre and avoid patronizing driver’s license outlets that would not capture their biometrics and signatures.

The FRSC boss advised drivers to make sure their vehicles and tyres are in good condition. He also warned against drunk driving and phone usage while behind the wheels.
