One of the beneficiaries of the N-Power scheme – who are due to be disengaged soon by the federal government – has reportedly committed suicide.
Though not verified, the volunteer was from Eruwa, Ibarapa East local government area of Oyo State.
Reports say he left a note behind saying, “he cannot go back to the competitive labour market after waiting many years to secure Npower stipend job”.
“The disengagement plan by Minister Sadiya doesn’t/didn’t spell out what becomes of Beneficiaries after disengaging them and I cannot longer face frustration of unemployment in this country, call Nigeria,” the suicide note is quoted as saying.
A Twitter user wrote on Sunday about the reported suicide: “N-Power beneficiary commit suicide in ibadan over disengagement news announced by federal government. That the 500,000 N-Power will be disengage at end of this month of June and July.
