Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has issued a warning to state judges against compromising justice in their court rulings.

During the opening of the 2024/2025 Legal Year and Re-Dedication Service at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul’s, Anglican Communion in Diobu, Port Harcourt, Fubara criticized certain legal practitioners for what he described as unethical behavior.

He accused some judges of compromising their integrity to accommodate the interests of their paymasters, stating that their actions amount to a professional aberration.

Fubara emphasised that judges are representatives of God and should administer justice impartially, without fear or favor. He remarked, “Some of you claim to be legal luminaries. You know the truth, yet you go on air to appease your paymasters and distort the law.”

He continued, “We all understand that issues related to governance fall under the jurisdiction of the State High Court. It doesn’t matter if INEC or the Police are involved; it is a matter for the state! I may not be a lawyer, but I know that. How can you stand there and claim you’re doing the right thing? God will judge you for it.”

Fubara further stated, “Judges, you represent God to us. Your role is to defend us and speak the truth, regardless of who is involved. Failing to do so will lead to serious consequences. As the preacher said, every injustice committed in the name of administering justice will be repaid dearly.”

The governor commended the Rivers State Judiciary, particularly the High Court, for their invaluable support that has helped sustain his administration amid various challenges.

He added, “I want to express my gratitude to the Rivers State Judiciary, especially the High Court of Rivers State, for your unwavering support in keeping this administration afloat. We are aware that many of you have faced threats, including phone calls and physical assaults, as well as baseless professional petitions against you.”
