Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pledged to complete the 5km Okania-Ogbogoro road by December, aiming to alleviate traffic from the ongoing Port Harcourt Ring Road project.
This road, located in the Akpor area of Obio/Akpor Local Government, has been neglected for 14 years, and its reconstruction is now underway with 90% of drainage work finished.
Speaking on Monday, Governor Fubara walked the road, and inspected the culverts, drainages, and the surface texture, receiving updates from the Commissioner for Works, Elloka Tasie-Amadi.
“Two months ago, we flagged off this project, recognizing its importance and the suffering of our people due to the Ring Road construction,” Fubara said. “We are here to assess the progress, and it’s evident that significant improvements have been made since our last visit.”

The Governor noted that the contractor has nearly completed the drainage work and aims to achieve substantial progress by August and September, despite the rainy season. He expressed confidence in the project’s completion by December, potentially ahead of schedule in November.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara highlighted the community’s enthusiasm, emphasizing the project’s significance for the local residents. “This road, abandoned for over 14 years, holds great importance for the people here. For us as a government, it’s crucial that we undertake projects that directly impact our citizens’ lives positively,” he added.
