Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has written to the State House of Assembly, proposing Wednesday, March 19, 2025, as a new date for the presentation of the 2025 state budget.
Eko Hot Blog had earlier reported that Fubara’s earlier attempt to present the budget on March 12 was denied when he was barred from entering the Assembly premises.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, Fubara stated that despite previously delivering a soft copy notice and attempting to submit a hard copy through the clerk, he was denied entry.
He emphasized that his actions were in compliance with a Supreme Court judgment, which also mandated the Assembly to carry out its functions within constitutional boundaries.
Governor Fubara noted the House had previously issued a 48-hour ultimatum for the budget presentation, even before he was served with a certified true copy of the judgment and enrolled orders.
He reaffirmed his commitment to governance, emphasizing the importance of all arms of government working within their legal and constitutional frameworks for the benefit of the people.
The proposed new date of March 19, 2025, for the budget presentation showcases Governor Fubara’s continued determination to maintain dialogue and collaboration with the Assembly, despite ongoing political challenges.
He expressed his hope that the Assembly would consider his request favourably, paving the way for an amicable resolution to the current impasse.
