Fubara emphasized that national failure affects everyone and called for swift and fair investigations of those arrested to avoid unjust pretrial detention.

This, he noted, would pressure the Nigeria Police Force and Judiciary to reduce prison overcrowding and ensure justice.
Fubara’s remarks came during a meeting with the House of Representatives Committee on Reformatory Institutions, led by Chinedu Ogah, at the Government House in Port Harcourt. He stressed the importance of efficient police and judicial operations to prevent delays in trials and wrongful arrests.
He highlighted the financial burden of maintaining overcrowded prisons and urged institutions to function effectively to mitigate this issue. Fubara also focused on integrating ex-convicts into society, emphasizing proper evaluations and vocational training within correctional centers.
The Governor commended the National Assembly for addressing correctional facilities and acknowledged his administration’s efforts to reduce crime rates and support correctional centers.
He noted that many facilities are outdated but praised federal initiatives to build new ones and relocate urban centers.
