Just hours after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s inauguration, filling stations in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State, and its surrounding areas have closed, halting the dispensing of fuel, also known as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The closure of most filling stations has led to long queues forming at the few stations that are still operational in Dutse. This development comes shortly after President Tinubu stated in his inaugural speech that the previous administration did not allocate funds for fuel subsidies, indicating that such payments will no longer be made.
A commercial cab driver, expressed frustration and placed blame on fuel marketers for creating scarcity and causing unnecessary hardship for Nigerians. He recounted purchasing fuel at the rate of N230 per litre from a private filling station the previous morning, only to find that all stations were closed the following day, except for the NNPC station.
Another commercial cab driver, also shared his experience of buying fuel at the exorbitant cost of N300 per litre that morning. He lamented the closure of all filling stations and highlighted the potential negative impact on transport fares and the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians.
The sudden fuel scarcity in Jigawa has raised concerns about the availability and affordability of fuel, as well as its implications for daily life and transportation in the state. Consumers and motorists are left grappling with limited options and increased expenses, while the closure of filling stations exacerbates the challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians.
