Fuel Subsidy: Government Declares A Three-day Workweek

Eko Hot Blog reports that Kwara State has declared a three-day workweek for government employees.

The decision aims to reduce the financial burden placed on the state’s residents due to the petrol subsidy removal and high transportation rate on public servants.

In a statement on Monday, Susan Oluwole, head of the service, said the directive was declared by the state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu in his inaugural speech on May 29, announced that the era of fuel subsidy was gone.

Following Tinubu’s declaration, Nigerians were thrown into tension as petrol prices increased across the country and long queues were also reported at many filling stations.

But in a bid to address the financial strain faced by its workers, the Kwara State Government announced the immediate implementation of a three-day workweek in the state.

Under the new schedule, the Kwara Head of Service, Susan Modupe Oluwole, said government employees will only work for three days a week, with the remaining two days designated as non-working days.

Oluwole, in a statement by her Chief Press Secretary, Murtala Atoyebi, said “…the State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has directed that the workdays be reduced from five days to three days per week for every worker.”

Atoyebi added, “Mrs Oluwole directed all Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the State to immediately work out a format indicating the alternating work days for each worker under them.

“The Head of Service, however, warned the workers not to abuse the magnanimity of the Governor, stressing that the regular monitoring of MDAs by her office would be intensified to ensure strict compliance.”
