EKO HOT BLOG reports that Ayodele Fayose, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed his support for the decision made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to remove the fuel subsidy in Nigeria.

Following the President’s inaugural speech, where he stated that the subsidy was no longer sustainable due to lack of provision in the previous administration’s budget, Fayose took to Twitter to voice his opinion on the matter.

In a series of tweets, Fayose commended Tinubu for making what he believed to be the best decision for the collective good of the country. He acknowledged that the removal of the subsidy might cause temporary hardship for the citizens but urged them to be patient, assuring them that things would improve over time.

Fayose also called on the President to take action against oil marketers who were taking advantage of the situation to bring hardship to Nigerians. He emphasized the need to sanction those found hoarding fuel or selling it at exorbitant rates.

The former governor of Ekiti State argued that the fuel subsidy regime had only benefited a few individuals in the oil industry, and it was time to break this chain of inequality. He stated that President Tinubu, though not a magician who could magically generate money, would strategically reposition the country using his experience and intellect.

Fayose further highlighted the damage caused by previous administrations and stressed the importance of taking decisive actions to stabilize the country. He urged the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and other concerned parties to understand that the current government was working towards restoring progress and development.

“The NLC and all interested parties, especially ordinary Nigerians should realize that the last administration did more damage and the new government can only be finding ways and means to stabilize the country.

“Sadly, like typical Nigerians who are always desirous of taking advantage of every situation, the fuel marketers are only interested in making money for themselves and methinks the govt should come very hard on them this time. Anyone among them found to be hoarding fuel or selling at an exorbitant rate should be dealt with.”

Expressing his disappointment in fuel marketers who prioritized their profits over the welfare of the people, Fayose called for stringent measures to be taken against them. He believed that the government should deal firmly with any marketer found hoarding fuel or selling it at inflated prices.
