Eko Hot Blog reports that the Eredo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), on Thursday, launched a palliative initiative titled “Free Raw Food Outreach.”
The Chairman of Eredo LCDA, Honorable Ismail Monsuru, who addressed residents and explained the purpose of the initiative, said essential food items were being distributed in a bid to alleviate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal on them.
He highlighted the importance of providing support to the community during these challenging times.
Hon. Monsuru expressed his desire to mitigate the effects of the fuel subsidy removal and stated that the programme would continue until December.
The free raw food outreach package comprised of packs of rice, beans, and garri.
According to the Eredo LCDA boss, over 3000 residents benefited from this initiative on its first day, with many expressing their gratitude for the timely assistance.
Local community leaders and volunteers worked together to ensure a smooth distribution process.
Beneficiaries have hailed the Eredo LCDA for creating and executing the initiative to help residents.
Mrs. Rosemary Adeniyi, a beneficiary from the initiative, said, “I am extremely grateful to Eredo LCDA for this initiative. It is a huge help for me and my family, especially since prices of basic necessities have skyrocketed recently. This will go a long way in easing our burdens.”
The Eredo LCDA, under the leadership of Chairman Monsuru, said it is committed to prioritising the welfare of its residents.
“This initiative is just one of many steps taken by the local government to cushion the effects of economic challenges faced by the community,” a statement from the LCDA reads.
“The palliative initiative has gained significant praise from residents, who appreciate the council’s dedication to championing their well-being. The local government plans to sustain this programme throughout the year.
“As more families face financial difficulties due to the fuel subsidy removal, initiatives like these provide a glimmer of hope in an otherwise uncertain time. The Eredo LCDA’s commitment to supporting its residents demonstrates the power of community-led initiatives in times of crisis.”
